NASHUA, NH – New England’s Haas Factory Outlet, Trident Machine Tools (HFO/Trident) and Nashua Community College (NCC), in New Hampshire teamed up to put a new twist on machine tool open houses. The Twist? A single event where local manufacturing firms could see demonstrations of the latest in machine tool technology, as well as interview students (about to graduate) that are experienced operating them. According to Nick Schuchardt, President of HFO/Trident, the event was a huge was a huge success.
Schuchardt explains, “Everybody seems to say they can’t get enough skilled employees. Hosting an event within Nashua Community College allowed us to turn an Open House into a quasi-Job Fair.”
Attendees to the single day event were offered a tour of Nashua Community College, starting with their well-equipped Machine Lab which was recently expanded by 3,000 sq. ft. and features 8 Haas CNC machine tools. The machine lab expansion also features a metrology lab, where a brand new Mitutoyo Coordinate Measuring Machine was demonstrated during the event. Finally, a wide range of tooling and accessory suppliers set-up table top display to round out the event.
“I’m overwhelmed. The response has been great,” said Mark Dodge, program coordinator and professor of precision manufacturing at NCC. “We’ve had a lot of people here – familiar faces and a lot of new ones, so I was way beyond pleased.”
